Hi! My name is Emily and I am very excited to join Uptown Speech Therapy! I am happy to become a team member of Uptown Speech Therapy where the mission is to provide excellent speech and language treatment and caregiver education to help children in our community!
Work Experience
I have been a speech-language pathologist for 17 years and I absolutely love working with children and watching them learn and grow! During my career as a speech therapist, I have had the privilege of working with children ages birth to 21 years of age who have been diagnosed with a variety of developmental disorders and medical conditions. I began my career working in a school district on an Army Post where my husband was stationed. When we moved back to West Virginia, where my husband and I grew up, I worked at an outpatient pediatric rehab center and in the local school district. When we moved to the South Hills, I began working again with children in an outpatient center. My areas of expertise include: early childhood language development, speech sound disorders, apraxia of speech, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language/social skills, phonological awareness, literacy development, oral motor techniques, and augmentative/alternative communication (AAC). My approach to providing speech therapy with children is to utilize a play based approach where they learn and work through play and functional communication.
A Bit More About Me
My family moved to the South Hills area 10 years ago and we love the community here. I have two amazing children, Landon (15 years old) and Lauren (9 years old). Landon just completed his first year of high school and loves playing baseball for the Bethel Park Black Hawks. Lauren enjoys playing softball and swimming in our pool. We have a crazy dog named Buddy; he’s a border collie with lots of energy. All the children I work with love hearing stories and seeing pictures showing the silly things he does!
I believe everyone deserves a voice and I look forward to working with you to help your child find theirs!
